Van Gaal beginning to get angry about transfer activity at Manchester United

Louis van Gaal is starting to get ‘increasingly frustrated’ about how slow Manchester United have been in the transfer window this summer, ESPN have reported.

United wrapped up deals for Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera within the space of 48 hours last month but both deals were effectively complete before the Dutchman arrived, meaning none of his own personal targets have arrived at the club.

ESPN, citing sources within United, suggest Van Gaal is particularly griped about the failure to land Thomas Vermaelen and the ongoing saga with Juventus over Arturo Vidal.

It would come as no surprise that Van Gaal is frustrated given his forthwith approach to management and fans would share in that frustration as, with just 17 days left in the transfer window, a lot more activity is needed to make the current squad Premier League title contenders.

Fans have been patient but Woodward’s bold and public claims United could break the transfer record if they wanted to have placed an intense spotlight on whether he can follow through on those claims.

Luke Shaw‘s injury has exacerbated the weakness at full-back that United have as with Rafael already sidelined, along with Jonny Evans, there is no recognised left-back in the squad and hardly any centre backs.

As well as the defence, the necessity for a powerful midfielder still exists as it has done for years and the club look no closer to signing one.

Ed Woodward still has time to secure the right deals but the last thing United needed was another rush at the end of the window to sign players, much like there was last year when United overpaid for Marouane Fellaini at the last minute.

However, it looks like that will be the case once again but Woodward can ill afford to make the same mistakes this year in the last few weeks of the transfer window. If he does and United are left with full pockets and holes in the squad, Van Gaal faces an uphill battle to win the league with an inferior squad in comparison to other teams competing for the league title.
