Manchester United are willing to invest up to £100m in their pursuit of Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria, according to the Daily Mail’s Ian Ladyman.
A fee of £50m and wages would combine to be worth the £100m figure that has been reported and it would make Di Maria the most expensive player in the history of United.
Di Maria, 26, is available this summer following the arrival of James Rodriguez at the Santiago Bernabeu but Madrid’s demands for him have seen cash-rich Paris St Germain pull out of a deal.
However, Ladyman’s report suggests Louis van Gaal has told Ed Woodward to do everything he can to sign Di Maria.
The priority for United in the next two weeks is to bring in new defenders and a midfielder but world class players like Di Maria are precisely what United need to bring the quality of the squad up to scratch with those around us in the Premier League.
With only two weeks left in the transfer window, United are going to be busy behind the scenes. Whether that means players will be signed in time remains to be seen.
