After an impressive season between the sticks, De Gea rightly earned plaudits. Behind a constantly rotating back four, the Spaniard managed to produce fine performances and scooped both the Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year at last season’s End of Season awards. To add to his personal trophy haul for the season, he’ll have to beat off competition from Everton’s Seamus Coleman, Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling and Manchester City’s Yaya Toure.
Also nominated for an award is goalscoring sensation James Wilson. Having scored 25 goals in 30 games at all levels last season, including two on his professional and first team debut against Hull City, it’s little wonder that he is in contention for the Rising Star award. He follows in the footsteps of fellow Under-21 player and former Jimmy Murphy Academy Player of the Year Ben Pearson who was nominated last season.
There are a whole host of players vying for the Rising Star award including Everton’s Ross Barkley, Manchester City’s Marcos Lopes, Liverpool’s Jordan Rossiter and Wigan Athletic’s Martyn Waghorn.
Voting is currently open and will remain open until 3pm on Friday October 24th. You can cast your vote for the United lads here. The awards will take place on Tuesday Novermber 18th at The Point in Emirates Old Trafford.
