Marcos Rojo unavailable for Manchester United’s game against Sunderland

Manchester United’s new signing Marcos Rojo is unavailable for this weekend’s game against Sunderland due to delays with his work permit.

Rojo, 24, arrived from Sporting Lisbon this week in a £16m deal but his work permit has not yet been finalised meaning United fans will have to wait to see him in action.

With Luke Shaw, Rafael, Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard all sidelined with injury, it’s likely that Ashley Young or Reece James will fill in the left-back role against Sunderland at the weekend.

Rojo has been training with United’s first-team this week so he would more than likely have played if he were available, so it’s a shame his work permit couldn’t be finalised in time.

Speaking about Rojo, Louis van Gaal revealed he had watched extensive videos of Rojo in action as part of Holland’s preparation for the World Cup and believed he was a player who fit into his philosophy.

“I think Marcos fits in the profile as a left central defender,” Van Gaal said in his pre-match press conference.

“Also, he can play as a left wing-back.”

Depending on when Rojo can finalise his work permit, there’s a chance he could feature in the game against Burnley next weekend.
