Louis van Gaal and Manchester United have refused to pass comment on the current situation surrounding Angel di Maria but the Dutchman has reignited speculation surrounding Arturo Vidal by discussing him by name.
Speaking in his post-match interview with Geoff Shreeves and also in his post-match press conference, Vidal sarcastically named Vidal and Messi as two other players he’d like to sign as well as Di Maria when questioned about the Argentinian.
“I like Di Maria, but I also like Messi and Vidal,” he said.
“You can not always sign everyone you like.”
Van Gaal knows exactly how the media works and that naming Vidal will help speculation continue right up until the end of the transfer window. It doesn’t mean United are going to sign Vidal by any stretch of the imagination but Van Gaal is obviously content to let the speculation carry on.
Previously, Van Gaal named Di Maria as the sort of world-class winger who United didn’t currently have in the squad and he is now set to complete his move to Old Trafford.
United fans will be hoping the same logic applies to his Vidal comments.
