Van Gaal insists Manchester United will not panic buy any players

by Richard Laverty

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has promised that any more new arrivals this summer will have ‘nothing to do with the results’.

Van Gaal has said all summer he won’t panic buy and will only buy players with the intelligence, commitment and talent to play his philosophy, something he has now reiterated.

United today announced a deal to sign Ajax’s Daley Blind but who else could potentially join United this summer?

Juventus star Arturo Vidal has been the on-running saga of the summer whilst the familiar name of William Carvalho has also resurfaced during the last few days.

Blind’s arrival will spark much discussion about who else could come in after the arrivals of Ander Herrera, a certainty for the starting XI, and Angel Di Maria who also seems set to play in a three-man midfield.

United also strangely denied an interest in Southampton’s French midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin on Friday afternoon. Is that a sign the club are actually putting the name out into the public eye or a straight denial that a move will materialise before Monday’s deadline?

After almost no links to the French international over the summer, it appears odd that United would deny an interest. Of course, United previously denied interest in Ander Herrera and Marco Rojo before both had signed for the club.

Other targets that whose names won’t go away include Nigel De Jong, young Brazilian Lucas Silva and Roma’s currently injured midfielder Kevin Strootman.

Whatever happens, it seems certain if anyone does arrive at Old Trafford on Monday, it’ll be a midfielder.
