What to expect from Manchester United’s transfer deadline day

In less than 24 hours, another summer transfer window will have passed.

Last summer, United were made to look like a club who had never traded Panini stickers before, let alone players in the transfer market. Imposter agents summed up United’s attempts to sign Ander Herrera, Real Madrid rejected a desperate attempt to sign Sami Khedira and an injury time lunge at Fabio Coentrao left United clutching at air. It was only Marouane Fellaini who joined and even that was laughable given the price United paid.

Thankfully for Manchester United fans, this summer has been one of the most memorable ones in history for a lot of the right reasons.

Luke Shaw, Ander Herrera, Marcos Rojo, Angel di Maria and Daley Blind (pending announcement) totals just shy of £150m worth of investment in the squad. Two new central midfielders, two defenders and a world class attacker. If you offered those five players to United fans before the window opened, they’d have snapped your hand off.

However, that sense of yearning is still there. Is Rojo the world class centre-back who will lead by example? Are Herrera and Blind capable of dominating the midfield against the best? Some fans have voiced their worries to that effect.

Although summer long sagas surrounding Arturo Vidal and Mats Hummels have kept burning brightly, deadline day is unlikely to see either move to Old Trafford.

Relatively speaking, United fans should expect a busy day but not with arrivals as a host of players are likely to be sold by Louis van Gaal in order to streamline the squad.

The focus from Van Gaal will be on tightening his squad to exactly the group of players he wants to work with. However, there is always the possibility of another player joining on deadline day so it cannot be ruled out and growing reports of Falcao moving to United are evidence of that.

We’ll be taking a look into eight deals Manchester United could complete on transfer deadline day.
