Not one Manchester United fan would have named Radamel Falcao as a player they expected could join on transfer deadline day but that’s precisely what is happening.
United have agreed a loan move for the AS Monaco striker and he’ll fly into Manchester this afternoon to complete a medical ahead of being unveiled by the club. So long as he successfully completes a medical and personal terms are agreed, Falcao will be a United player by 11pm this evening.
Could Falcao be United’s new No.9?
The No.9 shirt has been vacant since Dimitar Berbatov left the club back in 2012 and there is surely no better candidate to take up the number than Falcao.
A prolific striker, Falcao’s addition means United would boast one of the best strike-forces in world football in Rooney, Van Persie, Falcao and Welbeck.
A shop in Malaysia has already starting printing Falcao No.9 on United shirts.
Whether or not Falcao’s arrival is because Van Persie has to undergo surgery this year remains to be seen, as does the uncertain future of Welbeck, but United are really making a statement this summer with the movements in the transfer window and Falcao as a potential new No.9 is the most surprising of them all.
