Van Gaal insists signing Falcao was too good an opportunity to miss

Louis van Gaal is delighted Radamel Falcao has joined Manchester United and insisted the opportunity to sign a player of his calibre was too good to turn down.

Falcao, 28, joined United in the biggest transfer of deadline day and gives United one of the strongest attacking line-ups in Europe alongside Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

If Van Gaal can get all three strikers, and James Wilson, on goalscoring form then United will be unstoppable going forward.

“I am delighted Radamel has joined us on loan this season,” Van Gaal enthused after the announcement was made.

“He is one of the most prolific scorers in the game.

“His appearances-to-goal ratio speaks for itself and when a player of this calibre becomes available it is an opportunity not to be missed.”

United have lacked a clinical edge in the first few games of the season so far but that is unlikely to continue with Falcao around.
