Manchester United midfielder Davide Petrucci has terminated his contract with the club and is set to join Romanian side CFR Cluj.
The 22-year-old Italian midfielder’s contract expired next summer but he has decided to terminate it early in order to join Cluj.
Petrucci was included in Louis van Gaal‘s final 25-man Premier League squad only this week which surprised quite a few people and the fact Petrucci has terminated his contract is indicative of that because his first-team opportunities, with United out of the Capital One Cup, would have been very restricted.
Having joined from Italian side AS Roma, Petrucci had real promise as a ball playing midfielder but a succession of injuries and poor loan spells meant that he was never able to break into the first-team side.
For Petrucci’s career, a move away this summer is a logical step and at 22, he has more than enough time on his hands to make a new career elsewhere.
Good luck to Davide in Cluj and if he can stay injury free, there’s every chance he could fulfil the talent which saw him brought to United in the first place.
