Manchester United’s latest recruits have been unveiled to the media at Old Trafford today.
Falcao and Daley Blind joined Manchester United on the final day of the transfer window last week in what was the busiest and most expensive summer in the club’s history.
The AS Monaco striker joined United on an initial one-year loan deal whilst Blind signed a permanent deal for around £14m, the latter familiar with Louis van Gaal after the manager’s spell in charge of the Dutch national team.
The signing of Falcao certainly caught the eye after rumours suggested the Colombian star would likely end up at Real Madrid or United’s local rivals, Manchester City and is seen as a real coup by the club despite Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie lining up in the current attack.
After the departures of Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck, signing a striker makes perfect sense given Rooney prefers to drop deep and on going concerns over Robin van Persie’s long-term fitness.
Blind could also make his debut against QPR on Sunday, a player more familiar than anyone with playing in either of van Gaal’s two preferred formations. The Dutchman bagged himself an assist as the Netherlands went down to the Czech Republic this week but it appears the midfielder is fit and ready to make his Old Trafford bow this weekend.
