Man Utd injury news – Nine players out including Jones but Shaw fit to face QPR

Louis van Gaal has confirmed Phil Jones is facing up to a month on the sidelines with a hamstring injury.

The 22-year-old suffered the injury during the international week against Switzerland and it’s a cruel blow to his progress but follows an alarmingly regular pattern where he gets injured after a good run of form.

Having been named United’s Player of the Month for August, Jones was on an upward curve with his form but has now been set back two steps with his latest injury.

Luke Shaw is fit to get some minutes against QPR but Marouane Fellaini is also likely to be out for another month and Michael Carrick is not ready yet.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Van Gaal said: “Fellaini is more than a month away, Jones maybe three weeks or a month. Carrick isn’t ready but has run for the first time on grass.

“Johnstone has elbow problems, Smalling isn’t fit enough, Wilson and James are not ready yet. Young and Lingard are also injured.”
