Louis van Gaal has kept his cards close to his chest as to who will play for Manchester United on Sunday and what formation the team will use.

So far this season United have adopted a 5-3-2 formation that Van Gaal to great effect at the World Cup but it hasn’t worked with United as the players have struggled to adapt to it.

Many fans and critics now believe Van Gaal has the squad to use his traditional 4-3-3 formation but speaking to the press today, the Dutchman remained very coy and kept people guessing as to what he planned to do against QPR.

“We shall see who plays on Sunday,” he said this afternoon.

“I’m a coach who always decides based on what I have observed.”

Van Gaal is not the type of coach to react and change his formation based on a few poor results because it isn’t his philosophy but United have looked very disjointed with the 5-3-2 formation so far.

A 4-3-3 now seems better suited to the strengths of the squad after the arrival of Angel di Maria, Daley Blind and Radamel Falcao but we’ll have to wait until Sunday to see what Van Gaal decides to do.
