Adnan Januzaj has found first team opportunities limited this season but Louis van Gaal insists the talented young Belgian will get more game time if and when Manchester United switch to a 4-3-3 formation.
The teenager came on at half-time against Swansea and put in a lively performance but is yet to start a Premier League game this season and if the club stick with the diamond formation that succeeded in beating Queens Park Rangers, Januzaj may find game time even more difficult to come by.
“When we play 4-3-3 Januzaj will get more opportunities,” Van Gaal said this afternoon.
“He has to compete with very good players. When we play 4-3-3 he should have maybe more chances but it depends on the system.”
Van Gaal referenced Januzaj as one of his five strikers in the pre-match press conference for the Leicester City game, perhaps suggesting Januzaj will either be played up top or at least in the No.10 position where the Belgian said he feels most comfortable last week.
The Belgian international gave his new manager food for thought in midweek with a dazzling performance for the U21 side against Sunderland at Old Trafford with the eyes of van Gaal watching on in the stands.
Januzaj scored a hat-trick in a convincing win for United and will be hoping to pick up more minutes against Leicester this weekend.
