Wayne Rooney maintains belief in Man United squad after Leicester defeat

Wayne Rooney has responded to the overwhelming media criticism of Manchester United following defeat to Leicester City at the weekend by reaffirming his belief in the team this season.

There has been a hint of hyperbole in the press reaction to the capitulation against Leicester because although it was certainly a terrible performance, it was only one game.

Rooney hailed the quality of United’s squad and has chosen to ignore the media furore caused by the loss to Leicester.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Rooney said: “There seems to be a lot of people who have written us off because of Sundays result but I don’t see it that way.

“When I look around our dressing room and see the quality we have and the managers unbelievable attention to detail I have no doubts this team will be successful.”

It’s good to see Rooney taking on board his duties as United captain and he’s right in that the reaction has been overboard after one result.

However, United do need to improve. Louis van Gaal insisted it would take three months for him to get United playing precisely how he wants and so it could yet be a while before United start to show consistent form.
