Juan Mata has congratulated Patrick McNair on making an ‘amazing’ debut for Manchester United aged just 19 and feels it will be an unforgettable experience for him.
McNair was extremely impressive at centre-back alongside Marcos Rojo and played an important role in United’s defence staying strong for the last 30 minutes against West Ham when under immense pressure after Wayne Rooney got himself sent off.
It was as good a debut as McNair could have hoped for and his headed clearance late on to keep the score at 2-1 was one of the moments of the match.
Mata also hailed David de Gea as one of the most skilled goalkeepers he’d ever seen after the Spaniard reached 100 Premier League games in goal for United.
Writing on his weekly blog, Mata said: “It was a special day for David de Gea, who has reached 100 Premier League games. He is one of the most skilled goalkeepers I’ve ever seen so I know you will play many more than 100, my friend.
“It was also unforgettable for Paddy McNair. Making a debut with Manchester United in Old Trafford being just 19 is amazing, and I am sure he will always remember this day. It’s good for the young players to see that they can fit in the first team. It has always happened in this club and it’s a good tradition to keep. In my opinion, Paddy has a bright future ahead.”
