Luke Shaw relieved after Kevin Nolan’s goal ruled out against Manchester United

Luke Shaw has said his heart sank when Kevin Nolan equalised for West Ham against Manchester United at the weekend before it was ruled out for offside.

The 19-year-old had been enjoying a very strong debut and endured a barrage of sustained pressure from West Ham that looked like it had crumbled when Nolan prodded home an equaliser.

However, the West Ham midfielder was clearly offside and Shaw feels United certainly deserved to be on the right side of a tough decision.

“My heart sank (when Nolan’s shot went in),” he said.

“It was close. We haven’t had much luck either with decisions.

“We have actually had a lot of bad luck, especially with Wazza’s red card as I would say there was a handball before that but the referee didn’t stop play.”

Despite the fact Nolan is clearly offside there are those, including Sam Allardyce and Ian Wright, who genuinely believe there has been some sort of injustice for a correct decision being made. It’s quite simple – Nolan’s head and shoulders were offside.

So far this season United have been on the wrong end of a lot of some game changing decisions so Shaw is right that it is about time one went in our favour.
