Luke Shaw has found himself in the middle of a controversy as West Ham’s Diafra Sakho faces a retrospective ban after headbutting Shaw during the second half of United’s 2-1 victory this weekend.
Shaw is reported to have been left with a bruised eye following Sakho’s headbutt and as the referee didn’t pick up on the incident during the game, the FA are within their rights to implement a retrospective ban if video evidence supports the claims.
According to The Telegraph, Shaw complained to the assistant referee during the game but his decision to not inform the referee means a retrospective ban could happen.
Shaw, 19, enjoyed a very impressive debut against West Ham and was very solid at left-back up against a West Ham side who punished United’s goal following Wayne Rooney‘s red card.
However, Sam Allardyce’s man were certainly baying for United’s blood from the first whistle and decided to be extremely physical, so the possibility of a deliberate headbutt is certainly go.
At this point, all claims are unsubstantiated but the FA will have to look in to see where this has a case.
