Louis van Gaal remains full of confidence: “What is coming when Manchester United are playing well?”

Louis van Gaal‘s press conferences are something to look forward to every week because of how in control he is.

Never flustered by questions, never forced into answering anything he doesn’t want to, Van Gaal tells the press what he wants to, not what they want to hear.

The United boss has said plenty of memorable things in his press conferences this season but one quote sticks out from his post-match interview this weekend after the Everton game above all others:

“We are not playing good but we are already fourth in the table. What is coming when we are playing well?”

Van Gaal is absolutely spot on. United’s start to the season looked kind on paper with the fixtures but in practice, the team has not had the best preparation at all. Despite all the injuries and setbacks, United are sitting in fourth spot.

How good can United can be when the whole team is singing from the same hymn sheet, when Di Maria is fit enough to last 90 minutes, when United’s strongest XI is available for selection?

United have shown real progress since the Leicester City defeat and there is a growing confidence that Van Gaal’s three month plan is starting to come into fruition. Just how good can United can play if everything comes together?
