Angel di Maria’s unbelievable ‘rabona’ goal for Benfica

by Richard Laverty

Angel Di Maria was always hot property when he was shining on a regular basis at Benfica in Portugal five years ago.

The Argentine winger joined the Portuguese giants in 2007 and it wasn’t long until big names such as Real Madrid and Manchester United were sniffing around.

The explosive winger eventually joined Real Madrid in 2010 despite reported interest from United at the time and it’s no wonder so many clubs were after him.

Take a look at this unbelievable ‘rabona’ goal Di Maria scored from his time back in Portugal.

Di Maria has been known to pull off this piece of skill on a regular basis, although he wasn’t too popular among his Argentinian team mates when he tried it in the World Cup only to see the ball fly behind the goal and out of play.

His new team mate Marcos Rojo also pulled off a ‘rabona’ to clear the ball across his own penalty area during the World Cup. There’s clearly something in the water in United’s new South American contingent.

Di Maria is yet to pull off such skill at Old Trafford but fans have already been treated to flicks, outside of the boot passes and three goals during Di Maria’s short time at the club.
