Ryan Giggs was recipient of the Legend of Football Award at the HMV Football Extravaganza this week in a London ceremony on Tuesday.
Former winners of the award include Sir Alex Ferguson, Eric Cantona and Pele so Giggs joins a list of footballing greats by winning the award.
“It’s a very special award,” Giggs told ManUtd.com after picking up the award.
“I came to the dinner when Eric received his and it was only then that I realised how big an award it is and it’s for such a great cause.
“Nordoff Robbins is a great charity. I remember at Eric’s dinner that we heard from parents of some of the children who benefit from the charity and they discussed the help they get from music and how much progress they make by using it.
“It’s always great on these nights to get together with ex-team-mates and players I’ve played against, and it’s a good night to meet up with old friends who perhaps you don’t get chance to see as much as you’d like to. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as I did.”
As well as being reunited with plenty of former team-mates including Paul Scholes and Bryan Robson, Gary Neville had a surprise for Giggs with a fantastic Sky Sports style analysis of his famous goal against Arsenal in the 1999 FA Cup semi-final.
“The greediest thing he has ever done,” Neville exclaimed.
