Manchester United news: Valdes could join permanently, Scholes backs Fellaini and Van Gaal refusing to change style

Here is the latest Manchester United news from the last 24 hours including reports that Victor Valdes might be joining United on a permanent basis pending a successful medical as well as Paul Scholes discussing Marouane Fellaini, Angel di Maria and Radamel Falcao.

News that Valdes would be joining up with United’s first-team after being given an opportunity by Louis van Gaal to help his rehabilitation from injury came as a big surprise because nobody expected it.

Now, reports from the Spanish press suggest Valdes could join United on a permanent contract if he passes a medical as he is currently a free agent. There are some fans who are questioning the decision to bring Valdes in but as Anders Lindegaard seems set to leave, Valdes would be an adequate replacement as back-up to De Gea.

Elsewhere, Paul Scholes’ latest column for The Independent touches on plenty of topics including how important Angel di Maria is to United and how he is concerned about the fitness of Falcao. That being said, there wasn’t much of a mention about Van Persie’s form from Scholes which is a surprise given how poor he has been playing.

Despite the leaky defence this season, Van Gaal has insisted he will not deviate from his attacking style to try and improve the defence. Instead, he wants the defence to cut out their mistakes and make it difficult for the opposition.

With Diego Costa and Loic Remy injured, it looks like Andre Schurrle could be used in a striking role against United on Sunday. That would certainly help United on the physical side of things.

Jose Mourinho against Louis van Gaal is a great match-up and Sky Sports has collected a few quote from players who have been coached by both managers to find out how they compare. It’s interesting to see hear how Juan Mata had absolutely no dialogue or relationship with Mourinho whereas he has enjoyed life under Van Gaal, a difference which is indicative of their different styles.
