Manchester United send scouts to watch Ezequiel Garay in action ahead of potential January move – report

Louis van Gaal sent scouts to watch FC Zenit St. Petersburg’s Ezequiel Garay in action this week ahead of a potential January move, The Mirror reports.

Garay was in Champions League action with FC Zenit against Bayer Leverkusen where he lost 2-0 and reports suggest Van Gaal has identified him as a defensive option to help fix United’s leaky defence.

For the past two summers Garay was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford but eventually completed a move to Zenit after a long protracted saga following his participation in the World Cup.

Yet, despite that, he is once again being linked with United given the current defensive plight of Van Gaal’s side.

There’s no questioning Garay’s qualities as a world class, experienced centre-back would bring something United’s defence currently lacks but it would be very strange if Van Gaal was to pursue Garay in January given that he chose not to in the summer when he was available.

With United’s defence leaking more goals than Van Gaal wants, Garay is going to be the first of many centre-backs linked with a move in January, so we’ll be keeping on top of all the latest rumours in the next few months.
