Van Gaal: Evans, McNair and Valencia are not fit enough

Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Antonio Valencia, Jonny Evans and Paddy McNair are all still not ready to return for Manchester United.

Valencia took part in training yesterday but clearly the Ecuadorian winger is still working his way back to full fitness.

As for McNair and Evans, their absence is leaving Van Gaal with very few options defensively despite the return of Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

“Valencia, McNair and Evans are not fit enough,” Van Gaal told MUTV.

The biggest loss from that trio of players is 19-year-old McNair which is both a testament to the impact he had in his first few appearances for the club and equally so a reflection on Valencia and Evans’ seasons so far.

However, despite their absence, United’s current injury situation is the best it has looked in a long time now that Michael Carrick has made a return from injury alongside Ander Herrera who is ready to play Chelsea on Sunday.

There’s unlikely to be a point this season where United don’t have at least one injury but at least things are now looking on the up.
