Victor Valdes enjoys trip to Old Trafford and signs autographs for fans

After reports surfaced in midweek that Victor Valdes was training with Manchester United, the Spaniard was at Old Trafford today to watch the Chelsea game.

Rumours first appeared earlier this week that Valdes would train with United with the possibility of earning himself a contract at the club and Louis van Gaal confirmed that the Spaniard was training with the first team squad.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Van Gaal said: “For me it’s not a surprise because I have done it already with a lot of players, I have a relationship with a lot of players.”

Valdes, 32, was rumoured to be joining rivals Liverpool several weeks ago but it appears the door has opened for van Gaal to sign up up the experienced goalkeeper and provide able back-up to David De Gea.

With Anders Lindegaard primed for a move away in the summer, the club moved for Kenneth Vermeer on deadline day but neither move materialised before the deadline.

Valdes appeared for the Catalan giants over 500 times in his illustrious career in Spain and would be another experienced head in the Old Trafford set up for De Gea to learn from moving forward.

When asked whether Valdes would be offered a permanent contract by the club, Louis van Gaal said: “Manchester United always have their eyes open.”
