Manchester United scouts were present for Stade Rennes 2-1 victory over Olympique de Marseille in France last night, reports have confirmed.
Last season under David Moyes, United scouts were incredibly busy. Regularly spotted in Portugal, Italy and other European countries, it was part of Moyes’ stringent process with evaluating potential transfer targets before making any moves for them and it looks like Louis van Gaal is laying the same foundations down.
As well as established stars, Van Gaal will be keeping an eye on burgeoning talents and on show last night he would have been able to take a look at the likes of Marseille’s midfield duo of Giannelli Imbula, 22 (pictured below, first), and Florian Thauvin, 21 (pictured below, second).
Previously, United signed Paul Pogba from French side Le Havre when he was a teenager so there is certainly talent to be found in Ligue 1 and it’s good to see the scouting network is active despite it only being October.
Van Gaal has already brought in the likes of Ajax youngster Timothy Fosu-Mensah into the academy but expect there to be plenty more arrivals over the next few years as well as additions to the senior squad.
