Manchester United youngster James Wilson has been shortlisted for the Northwest Football Rising Star Award.
The 18-year-old striker has made great career strides in the past 12 months and followed on from a debut against Hull City last season where he scored two goals by being drafted into the first-team by Louis van Gaal.
While he has been reduced to late substitute appearances for United so far this season, Wilson’s goalscoring form has continued for United’s U21s and it is only a matter of time before he is given his first start by Van Gaal, something which could hypothetically happen this weekend against Crystal Palace.
Like Adnan Januzaj back in 2013, Wilson is fantastically talented and considered one of United’s best academy graduates in recent years. At this stage, it’s considered an inevitability that he will become a regular starter for United over time so long as his injuries don’t hamper him too much.
Here is the five man shortlist in full:
- Ross Barkley – Everton Football Club
- Jordan Rossiter – Liverpool Football Club
- Marcos Lopes – Manchester City Football Club
- James Wilson – Manchester United Football Club
- Tom Cairney – Blackburn Rovers Football Club
