Manchester United suffered their first defeat in the Barclay’s U21 Premier League this season with a 2-3 defeat to Leicester City at Leigh Sports Village.
The Foxes side included three former United players in Danny Simpson, Tom Lawrence and Jack Barmby, while United saw the return of Josh Harrop and Ben Pearson to the side.
The first half started off well for United who took the lead after just nine minutes. The goalscorer was, unsurprisingly, James Wilson with a typical Wilson goal.
He was pushed out wide, rounded the keeper and slotted home his left footed effort into the far corner.
It looked at that point as though it would be a question of how much against the team sitting at the bottom of the Barclay’s U21 Premier League. However, the Foxes showed good character to fight their way back into the match.
Ben Amos kept United in the game with a string of excellent saves but unfortunately for him, and United, he was beaten twice by Dodoo and Albrighton to give Leicester a 2-1 lead heading into half time.
Again, Amos was on hand on several occasions in the second half to palm the goal away from his goal. Will Keane contributed heavily to the United equaliser with a decent strike in the 53rd minute, after being pick out by Ben Pearson. It probably won’t go down as a Will Keane goal due to the heavy deflection from a Leicester defender.
It looked as though United would hold on for the win when the old boys struck in “Fergie time”.
Tom Lawrence found Jack Barmby whose effort went over Amos in the second minute of added time to secure the victory for the Foxes. That defeat leaves United sitting in second place, one point behind Manchester City but with two matches in hand.
