Keane called up to England U21s while Wilson and Harrop make U20s squad

Michael Keane has been named by Gareth Southgate in England’s U21s squad while James Wilson and Josh Harrop were both called up to the U20s.

England’s U21s are heading into two friendlies against Portugal and France off the back of successfully qualifying for the Euro 2016 Championships but Luke Shaw will not take part having been called back up to the senior squad.

Sam Johnstone can feel slightly aggrieved not have been given a place in the U21s squad after his return from injury and good start on loan at Doncaster.

Wilson has returned to the England set-up after missing the last round of matches through injury and is part of the squad alongside Harrop but there is no place for Ben Pearson or Joe Rothwell.

With reports of Wilson getting his first start of the Premier League season against Crystal Palace this weekend, it’ll be good to see the 18-year-old in action with England during the international break as well as he needs as much competitive football as possible.
