James Wilson prepared for potential full debut under Van Gaal against Crystal Palace

Louis van Gaal pulled James Wilson aside today at training to have a chat with him ahead of what could be a milestone weekend for the young striker.

Wilson, 18, is in line to make his full Premier League debut under Van Gaal if reports are correct that he could start ahead of Robin van Persie against Crystal Palace as the Dutchman is currently out of form.

Having come on against Manchester City and Chelsea in the last two games, Van Gaal is certainly giving Wilson some opportunities and a start against Palace would be his biggest one yet.

“He’s been knocking on the door for a long time. I believe in him,” Van Gaal said to reporters today.

It would be a richly deserved opportunity because Wilson has continued playing very well with United’s U21s and is far too good for that level in much the same fashion as Adnan Januzaj was before he broke into the first-team.

Van Persie needs time to rest, recuperate and re-gather his thoughts which is something that the international break should help with ahead of an away trip to his old side Arsenal, so it’s the perfect time for Van Gaal to introduce Wilson from the start.
