Van Gaal gives permission for Ronaldo to come back to Carrington with Portugal

Louis van Gaal has given permission to the Portuguese national team to train at Manchester United’s training ground ahead of their international friendly against Argentina, The Telegraph reports.

It will be the first time Ronaldo has been at Carrington since he left for Real Madrid in 2009 and the second time he has been back at United having played against them in the Champions League back in 2013.

As has been the case every summer since Ronaldo left five years ago, the Portuguese winger has been heavily linked with a move back to United after his relationship with Real Madrid’s management reportedly took a turn for the worse, as well as his agent Jorge Mendes.

However, Ronaldo has come out and said he wants to see out his full contract at Madrid and Mendes has indicated he could retire in the Spanish capital, so it doesn’t look very likely that Ronaldo will play in a United shirt in the future. That being said, the rumours will never stop.

Regardless of that, it will still be good to see Ronaldo back at Old Trafford and will certainly be interesting to see how he gets on against Angel di Maria.
