Louis van Gaal has publicly backed James Wilson to go on and successful career as a Manchester United player.

The 18-year-old has made quite the impression on Van Gaal since joining United’s senior squad for training over the past few weeks and he could be rewarded against Crystal Palace ahead of Robin van Persie.

Despite only being young, Wilson has made quite the impression on Van Gaal and the Dutchman has backed him to go on and compete with Falcao and Van Persie for a a place in the side.

Speaking about Wilson, Van Gaal said: “From what I have seen this season, [yes], but he was also injured a few times.

“He has already been knocking on the door for a long time, that I have said in many press conferences. That is not only because he substituted Robin van Persie in the last match. I believe in him but he has competition with [Radamel] Falcao and Robin van Persie.”

Wilson is in line to make his full debut under Van Gaal this weekend and if can replicate the same fantastic form he has shown with the U21s when he plays with the senior side, he’ll do just fine.
