Radamel Falcao is receiving ice treatment on his troublesome left knee after every training session and match, according to reports.
The Colombian has been absent from United’s last three games with a calf injury sustained in training but the bigger concern lies with his knee following surgery earlier this year.
While the treatment is more likely to be preventative than anything else, it is indicative of how volatile Falcao’s current state of fitness is.
Falcao has had fleeting moments of magic at United but has so far failed to hold his place in the side consistently thanks to a series of fitness related issues.
The risk with signing Falcao was always going to be that he was unable to fully recover from his knee injury which ruled him out of the World Cup. United minimised the risk of that situation by only signing Falcao on a season long loan but reports have already suggested Louis van Gaal does want to sign him on a permanent deal, fitness pending of course.
With another two week international break, Falcao has some more time to recuperate and regain his fitness but at this stage United fans are understandably worried about the long term impact of his knee surgery and whether he can fully return to his best.
