Timothy Fosu-Mensah named in top European talent list

Timothy Fosu-Mensah has been named 28th in a top 50 list taking a look at the world’s best youngsters.

The 16-year-old Dutch defender joined Manchester United from Ajax in the summer but is yet to make his debut for the club as he is waiting for international clearance.

In the mean time, Fosu-Mensah captained Holland’s U17s to an undefeated European Championships qualifying campaign which will do his confidence as a young player the world of good.

Although Fosu-Mensah is yet to play for United there is a growing sense of excitement to see him in action and academy coach Paul McGuinness is looking forward to watching him play.

In modern day football there is a worrying lack of world class defenders when you compare it to a previous generation which boasted the likes of Paolo Maldini, Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic who were indomitable in their pomp.

That gives players like Fosu-Mensah a real opportunity to come through and make household names of themselves in the future.

Schooled in Ajax’s academy, Fosu-Mensah will have a natural ball playing ability and Carrington will be the perfect place for him to hopefully fulfil his potential under the watchful eye of Louis van Gaal.
