Manchester United are unlikely to be busy during the January transfer window but are already looking at targets for next summer.
Speaking this afternoon after United unveiled their financial report for the first quarter in 2014, Ed Woodward didn’t completely dismiss the prospect of United bringing in re-enforcements this January but did play any possibility down.
“There are targets we’re looking at next summer and should any become available in January we’ll consider it, but it’s low probability,” he said.
“We are not looking to enter [January market] for short-term fixes. If summer target becomes available we will consider acting.”
Mats Hummels and Kevin Strootman are two players who will continue to be heavily linked with United but as is the case, big January signings are hard to come by.
Juan Mata‘s arrival last January came as a consequence of Jose Mourinho not wanting him in his squad but United’s main targets this year are unlikely to be unwanted by their respective clubs.
That being said, we’ll be taking a look at five potential defensive signings United could make in January just to see what is available in the market.
