Casilla howler for Spain gives De Gea more momentum

by Sam Peoples

If it isn’t Casillas having a howler for Spain, it’s Casilla.

Kiko Casilla of RCD Espanyol came on as a substitute for Iker Casillas and was guilty of a terrible mistake when he failed to stop Toni Kroos’ innocuous shot in the 90th minute which gave Germany a 1-0 victory during the international break.

Casillas himself was guilty of his own shocking error back in October against Slovakia and at a time where David de Gea is putting in consistently brilliant performances, errors from other Spanish goalkeepers will only accelerate his progression to become their No.1 goalkeeper.

It’s an inevitability that De Gea will be passed the baton by Casillas and it was expected to be a slow transition but if De Gea can continue his fine performances, that time could come much sooner than he thinks.
