Arsenal vs Man Utd: Best 4-4-2 diamond – Rooney striker, Di Maria central

Louis van Gaal has now given the latest injury update ahead of the Arsenal game this weekend.

Radamel Falcao, Rafael, Jonny Evans, Phil Jones and Daley Blind are confirmed to miss the game and in reality, none of those absentees are at all surprising in that many expected them to be out.

In defence, there are so few options that it’s hard to look at more than a couple of defensive variations but whether or not Luke Shaw is fit could see Tyler Blackett deputise in that role.

Up front there are a couple of formation changes with this XI:

Angel di Maria takes up a higher, more central position in behind Robin van Persie and Wayne Rooney up front. He usually plays as a central midfielder with a focus on hugging the flank where possible but in this role, he’d be able to attack the edge of the box so much more which is what he does well.

As for Rooney, Van Gaal has played him as a No.10 but no further up. However, in his current form, Rooney should start up front.
