The curious case of Robin van Persie gets more and more curious after another disappointing performance on his third return to his former club.
Despite a slow start to the season, supporters thought van Persie was returning to form with a few goals to get him off the mark but he’s continued to look tired and uninvolved throughout the season.
Today, he had the support of Wayne Rooney as Louis van Gaal returned to 3-5-2 but it had little impact on the Dutchman’s performance. He was rarely able to get a touch on the ball and when he did he lost possession with ease, van Persie is either becoming disillusioned with life at Old Trafford or his legs have simply gone after a few not having a summer off after recovering from injury.
Manchester United supporters won’t dwell on another abject performance from the striker too much given the result but there is an ever-growing feeling than van Persie shouldn’t be in the first eleven at Old Trafford.
Van Persie is thoroughly useless in this game. Switch him out for Herrera to get some control over the midfield. #MUFC

Really close to crossing Van Persie off my Christmas card list too.

Van Persie's head is not in the game, nor has it been in any game this season as of yet. One has to wonder why? Looks disinterested. #mufc

Robin van Persie's been woeful so far. Again.

Wilson has done more in 10 mins than Van Persie in 70.

There’s undoubtedly still a loyalty to van Persie from Manchester United fans given his role in their last league title but the hopes that the striker would return to that form under Louis van Gaal is wavering with every game.
James Wilson was given another cameo in van Persie’s place and supporters will be wondering how long it will be until Wilson takes van Persie’s place in the eleven.
