Wayne Rooney delighted with great performance and victory over Arsenal

Wayne Rooney turned back the clocks and put in an old school performance against Arsenal which was typified by a fantastic goal on the counter-attack that turned out to be the eventual winner in a 2-1 victory.

The 29-year-old came into the Arsenal game in great form having scored three goals in two games away on international duty with England and continued his purple patch at the Emirates, much to the delight of United fans.


Energetic, driven and relentless, that was the Rooney who United fans grew to love over the years. Whenever he didn’t have the ball he wanted it and when in possession he was dangerous.

Rooney’s wild celebrations with his United team-mates showed how important that goal was and it has the ability to be a turning point for the squad this season.

Such was the excitement, Rooney even forgot that Olivier Giroud scored a late consolation goal for Arsenal:

It wasn’t a fantastic performance but it was certainly a great result against Arsenal and going in to a busy festive period, it should really lift the spirits of United’s players.
