Young praises McNair and Blackett for Arsenal performances

Ashley Young hailed Paddy McNair and Tyler Blackett‘s performances against Arsenal as ‘fantastic’ after both players helped Manchester United secure a 2-1 victory.

Both 19-year-old’s have been thrown massively into the deep end this season, with varying degrees in success, but Young believes the duo did very well in what was a tough game for United.

In an interview with ManUtd.com where Young discussed United’s performance at the Emirates, he said: “I think [resilience] is going to have to be [the key word].

“Players like Paddy [McNair] and Tyler [Blackett] at the back were fantastic, and Chris [Smalling] as well.

“It’s new for Tyler and Paddy to come to the Emirates but I thought they were great from the word go and it’s not an easy job.”

Out of the duo, McNair enjoyed a better performance because Blackett lacked the same level of composure in possession but they both ultimately contributed to United’s victory on the day.

In a season where United’s defence has been so atrocious, it has been satisfying to see youngsters taking some of their opportunities to leave a lasting impression on Louis van Gaal.
