Manchester United are interested in bringing young PSV attacker Zakaria Bakkali to Old Trafford according to reports.
At just 19, Bakkali is one of the hottest properties in Dutch football and exploded on to the Eredivisie scene at the age of 17 when he scored a hat-trick in PSV’s opening game of the season again NEC Nijmegen.
Bakkali had scored his first club goal just three days earlier against Zulte-Waregem in the Champions League and it appeared Bakkali was going to go on to bigger and better things with a World Cup looming on the horizon.
The winger would make 15 further league appearances during the season without scoring but disciplinary issues have since seen him relegated to the ‘B’ team and he is yet to appear for the first time this campaign.
His contract runs out in June 2015 and it appears the club have no desire as yet to offer the young star a new contract, meaning he is free to speak to foreign clubs on 1 January.
The problem for Bakkali is his attitude which has currently got him dropped into PSV’s B team and it could hinder his career if his ego takes too much control over his actions.
Several clubs including Liverpool have been heavily linked but recent reports suggests Louis van Gaal is interested in bringing Bakkali to Old Trafford on a bosman transfer in the summer.
Despite the discipline issues, Bakkali is still just 18 and incredibly talented if his first season is anything to go by. Dutch compatriot Van Gaal will hope he’s the man to get the best out of the teenager should he rock up at Old Trafford next season.
