Darren Fletcher considering future options amid Hull City interest – report

by Sam Peoples

Darren Fletcher is wanted by Steve Bruce’s Hull City and could potentially leave Manchester United in January, according to the Daily Mail.

The Scottish midfielder was one of the most prominent figures for United on the pre-season tour but after the arrival of Daley Blind, he has been pushed to the periphery and hasn’t had much game time.

With his contract expiring this summer, Fletcher will soon have to consider his options but having battled for so long to overcome his ulcerative colitis condition, will he want to turn his back on United after the club supported him?

Fletcher won’t ask to leave United unless he feels he has to, that’s for sure, and Louis van Gaal had a show of faith in him having made him vice-captain behind Wayne Rooney. However, Fletcher will certainly be thinking about whether he would prefer more regular first-team football elsewhere or to remain at United as a squad player.

During the pre-season, Fletcher was really getting back to his old self but in the rigours of the Premier League, he has been exposed when played in the midfield anchor role which is why Van Gaal has decided not to play him.

Having been at the club since 1995 when he was a youngster, Fletcher is United through and through so he would certainly not leave without due thought but having fought so hard to be fit again, there’s every chance an exit could happen to give him the regular football which he likely craves.
