Marnick Vermijl in contention to play Hull

Manchester United defender Marnick Vermijl was once again training with the first team on Friday morning as the squad prepared for the visit of Hull City on Saturday.

The 22-year old has only made a handful of appearances for United and is yet to make a Premier League appearance but with a lack of defensive cover currently available to Louis van Gaal, Vermijl found himself on the bench against Arsenal last week.

After being loaned out to NEC in Holland last season, Vermijl’s agent said he would leave the club if David Moyes remained as manager after Sir Alex Ferguson had bedded the right-back into the first team against Newcastle United in a League Cup tie.

But the emergence of Patrick McNair and Tyler Blackett has continued to see Vermijl struggle for the first team opportunities. Moyes preferred Chris Smalling and Phil Jones covering at right-back whilst Van Gaal has used the experience of Antonio Valencia in his wing-back system during Rafael’s absence.

With Rafael, Phil Jones and Jonny Evans still out, Vermijl might find his way on to the bench again against Hull on Saturday or even potentially in the starting XI.
