Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wants his side to ‘beat opponents more easily’ as the team looks to consolidate its top four place going into the new year.
Rare back-to-back wins have seen United climb into fourth place and with two home games coming up, Van Gaal wants to see a ruthless streak from his team to ensure they don’t drop more points.
United have drawn several games this season where they failed to take chances and almost dropped points in home games to West Ham and Everton after spurning several chances to finish teams off.
Speaking at his press conference, Van Gaal was bullish with his analysis: “We have to improve our playing style and beat opponents more easily.”
The only game United have won convincingly this week was against QPR at the start of September. They raced into leads against Everton, West Ham and Leicester but dropped points against the latter and were lucky to hang on against the Toffees and the Hammers.
It took United almost 70 minutes to go ahead against Crystal Palace whilst Angel Di Maria’s one-on-one miss at the Emirates last week almost cost the side when Olivier Giroud fired Arsenal back into the game just minutes later.
With games against Southampton and Liverpool on the horizon, Van Gaal will hope to go into those games on the back of four straight wins and the impending return of Radamel Falcao may help the team put some of their chances away.
