Player Ratings: Man United 3-0 Hull City

by Richard Laverty

David De Gea 6 His last two home games have been remarkably quiet, this probably more so than Crystal Palace. Very few shots to save or crosses to catch.

Antonio Valencia 5 Went about the game with minimal fuss, played his role well but didn’t get forward as much as one might have hoped. But can be forgiven talking into account he was playing right-back once again.

Chris Smalling 7 Another very good performance from the defender. Looked comfortable on the ball, made some good tackles and scored the opener to top his day off.

Marcos Rojo 7 A surprise in the line-up but Rojo returned to the form he was hitting before his injury. Good on the ball, very strong in the tackle and is starting to look more like a United player.

Ashley Young 6 Playing at left-back, Young could afford to go forward at will given Hull’s lack of attacking intent. Played in some good crosses and once again looked handy after a good performance last week.

Michael Carrick 8 Today was what Michael Carrick is all about. Passing was accurate and on occasion, deadly. Looked very composed next to Ander Herrera, a fine performance.

Marouane Fellaini 6 Another solid and what’s becoming a standard performance from Fellaini. Made a few rash challenges in the second half but once again showed tidy passing and was a threat in the air.

Angel Di Maria 5 Hard to rate Di Maria given his injury ten minutes in but he was flying forward with ease early on, will be a miss for United if he’s out for any length of time.

Juan Mata 6 Slotted in nicely today and seemed to thrive when Ander Herrera came on. Passing was good but lacked a cutting edge, not his worst performance though.

Wayne Rooney 8 Rooney’s currently enduring one of his purple patches where goals will flow regularly. His finish was a thing of beauty and once again he worked hard throughout the match, ending with several bruises to show for it.

Robin van Persie 6 It was another lacklustre performance in the first half but a brilliant goal made up for it, also played a part in Rooney’s goal but still looked far from his old self.

Ander Herrera 8 Showed just why he’s been such a big miss in recent weeks. His first time passing is second to none and links well with whoever’s near him. Had a few efforts blocked but his passin was exquisite. Great to have him back.

Radamel Falcao 5 Didn’t get into the game much but was incredibly unlucky to be denied by a great block on the line. Worked very hard and surely his goals will come.

Darren Fletcher 5 Came on to shore up the midfield in the last 20 minutes and had little influence on the result but it’s good to see Fletcher back as a regular in the 18.
