Fabio Da Silva reminisces over first Premier League title

by Richard Laverty

Former Manchester United defender Fabio Da Silva took to his Instagram account today to look back upon his first Premier League title with the club back in 2011.

Unlike twin brother Rafael, Fabio didn’t qualify for a medal back in 2009 and a loan spell away meant he also missed out on a medal when United last won the trophy back in 2013.

The popular Brazilian duo were split up permanently in January when David Moyes allowed Fabio to leave the club for Cardiff City who would eventually be relegated to the Championship in May.

Fabio’s failure to shake off the naivety his brother showed in his early years at Old Trafford potentially cost him his career after David Moyes gave the left-back a rare chance to shine against Swansea in the FA Cup last season.

But just minutes into his appearance, Fabio caught Jose Canas high on the shin and was shown a straight red card for the foul. Fabio wouldn’t appear for United again and would leave the club within the month.

It was a decision contested by United supporters given the popularity of the twins and the fact Rafael had turned into a solid right-back with more time on the pitch.

But Fabio showed today United are still close to his heart and it’s not the first time since he left the club that he’s posted memories from Old Trafford on his Instagram account.
