De Gea and Carrick in line for new Man Utd contracts – report

by Sam Peoples

Michael Carrick and David de Gea could soon be offered new contracts by Manchester United reports The Telegraph.

Carrick’s current deal expires in June 2015 and the club has the option to extend it for a further year but it is news of a potential new deal for De Gea which is the most exciting.

The Spaniard’s deal runs out in 18 months which means that if a new deal isn’t agreed by the summer, he is entitled to speak with other clubs about signing for them which would be very dangerous for United if they let it reach that stage.

What De Gea has proved this year is just how important a goalkeeper can be for a team. One more than one occasion including Everton and Stoke, De Gea’s heroics in the dying embers of game has won United valuable points.

Gary Neville and Rene Meulensteen have both come out in the press to say De Gea is United’s most important player right now and they are spot on. Without De Gea, United’s progress this season under Louis van Gaal would have been a lot more muted.

United must do everything within their power and give De Gea what he wants to make sure he stays at the club. World class attackers are two a penny in modern football but goalkeepers of De Gea’s calibre are a rare breed and there’s no way United can afford to let him go.
