Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney took to Twitter to confirm he was ready to face Southampton on Monday night not long after his manager had confirmed the news.
Rooney picked up a knee injury against Hull City last weekend meaning he missed the midweek match against Stoke but the striker is fit and ready to go once again.
Rooney has been in fine form lately, scoring in his last two club appearances as well as his last two England matches and is going through a purple patch not unfamiliar to United supporters at this time of year.
The 29-year-old took to Twitter today to announce he would be wearing new boots provided by his sponsors Nike and fans will hope they allow him to continue his good form on Monday night.
As ever, Rooney has been one of United’s key performers during difficult times this season and despite calls for him to be dropped earlier in the campaign, Rooney has returned from a month off in October in his best form of the year.
After picking up a straight red card against West Ham in September, Rooney missed three games and some supporters called for the captain to be dropped upon his return but the striker has shown his worth to the team with a couple of excellent performances since his ban.
