Manchester United have confirmed that the increased spend on new signings this summer is set to continue under Louis van Gaal.
Over £150m was spent on six new signings including a club record £59.7m on Real Madrid’s Angel di Maria and although injuries have dramatically lessened their impact so far this season, United are now currently third in the league having won five consecutive games in a row.
Last summer was an unprecedented window of transfers for United but it has set a trend which will see United continue to flex their financial muscle.
The BBC report states: “In a sale prospectus, the club say they “anticipate a higher level of net player capital expenditure”.
What must always be taken into consideration with United is that the money which will be spent is money earned by the club. It is all relative in comparison to the revenues which the club generates and with the £75m a year Adidas deal set to start in 2015, United will have even more financial power to spend.
In the build-up to the January transfer window, we’ll be taking a look at some top targets United may look at and bring you profiles of some other stars who should be on Van Gaal’s radar.
