Marouane Fellaini splits fans over performance against Southampton

Manchester United midfielder Marouane Fellaini splits the fan base like very few others but his recent performances in a red shirt have seen him win over the majority of fans who wanted rid of him in the summer.

Louis van Gaal has found a role for the Belgian in his team but Fellaini has spoken this week about feeling tired given he’s had his longest run of starts so far in his short United career.

The midfielder certainly looked lethargic during the first half and his poor ball cost United a Southampton equaliser but he improved in a more reserved role later on as United defended their lead.

However, United fans were split on the Belgian’s performance but picked up on the fact he improved after the break.

Ander Herrera also struggled when he came on but van Gaal will want to make sure all his men are in peak physical condition when Liverpool come to town on Sunday.

The team will want to avenge last season’s 3-0 humiliation at Old Trafford and will need players with tired legs on the bench at most. It might now be time to give the Belgian a rest going into a busy period of matches.
